Cubiculo Condominium | church

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 51st Street, 414
 church, condominium

5-story Neo-Grec residential building completed in 1868. It is faced in brownstone, three bays wide. A high stoop leads up to main entrance at the west side of the parlor floor, with recessed wood-and-glass double-doors. To the left of the stoop is an English basement with a glass-and-iron door and a segmental-arched window. The windows above all have full surrounds with bracketed sills. The original top floor is crowned by a black metal roof cornice with brackets, modillions, and panels. A newer penthouse floor was added on top, slightly set-back behind the cornice and fronted by a terrace with small trees.

From 1968 until the mid-1990s the building operated as an experimental theater and home for the National Shakespeare Company, named the Cubiculo Theatre. It was then gutted and returned to its original residential use, now as condominiums. The basement level is occupied by Every Nation Church.
