670 Ninth Avenue (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York / Ninth Avenue, 670
 apartment building, commercial building

5-story residential building completed in 1887. The 4-bay facade is faced in light-grey stucco above a pair of plate-glass storefronts flanking a central entrance that is framed by narrow cast-iron pillars. The ground floor is covered by a steep-angled, green canvas awning. The two middle bays at the 2nd floor project slightly forward, with incised panels framing them. The middle pier has two panels of carved flowers, and there is a segmental-arch above the middle two bays filled with a foliate carving.

The 3rd & 5th floors have continuous sill courses, and the middle bays continue to project forward. At the 4th floor the middle pier has an incised panel and the next two piers each have three vertical grooves. The three projecting piers at the top floor have smaller grooves (three at the middle pier, and four on the other two), each topped by a Corinthian capital. The original surrounds at the outer-bay windows have been largely removed, though some rough-edge traces remain. The facade is crowned by a black metal roof cornice with end brackets, panels (the middle two with decorative patterns), modillions, and a central arched pediment on top, with foliate designs. The ground floor is occupied by Best Wash & Dry laundromat.
