This historical building, known as Liberty Hall, during the early 1900’s, was the home to Marcus Garvey and his community-based organization, the United Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). This building complex has been the site where the West Oakland community went to get involved with the issues in their neighborhood, and beyond. For many years, the nuns of Jubilee West provided an array of services to the community out of 1485 8th street. More recently, it has been the home for Overcomers With Hope Second Chance, a video and digital arts job training program, where the local young people are trained in how to shoot and edit video, as well as produce spots to be aired on local access television and the Internet. The site houses a technically advanced studio with high-tech equipment, and a functional green-screen complimented by professional lighting.

Liberty Hall, aka the Marcus Garvey Building, is listed on the National list of historic landmarks, with designation # 1989000199, with A-1+ rated, National Historic Landmark status.
