In January 2015, all rope-related recreational uses of the arch were banned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for a two-year period. During that time the Bureau will formulate formal policy on the activity. The ban also applies to another formation called the Gemini Bridges. The circus-like atmosphere of rope-swinging has generated many complaints from hikers. The BLM, a federal agency, gained possession of the land from the State of Utah in a land swap in 2014. In January 2013, when the land was still State-owned, the State banned commercial use of the arch. Source: http://www.sltrib.com/home/2030361-155/blm-bans-roped-fun-at-utahs
