Jimmy's Corner (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York / West 44th Street, 140
 bar, night club, commercial building

3-story mercantile building completed in 1867. It is clad in red brick with limestone trim. The ground floor has a black metal entry door to the upper floors on the left, and a multi-colored granite wall to the right with a projecting vestibule and rounded blue canvas canopy. The ground floor is capped by a band of red corrugated metal and a stone entablature, painted red with cornices at the top and bottom. The upper floors have tripartite windows with transoms, and projecting stone sills and cornices. A limestone roof cornice with small decorative brackets caps the facade. The building is occupied by Jimmy's Corner bar.

"At this veritable shrine to boxing, the walls are lined with fight posters, photos and other personal effects that owner and professional trainer Jimmy Glenn has pasted up over nearly thirty years (look for the shots of Jimmy with Ali). The house drink, Jimmy's Hurricane, is an intriguing blend of spiced rum, juices and amaretto, but it's a good idea to stick to beverages with no more than two ingredients. The crowd is a heady mix of Times Square regulars and media slummers—estimated tourist factor: less than five percent." — Angela Voulangas
