Built in several stages between 15th and 13th century bce, the royal palace was the administrative center of the kingdom and the house of the royal family. The palace covered nearly 7000 square meters and yelded extensive archives of tablets that provided us a great deal of information about various aspect of economy, society, administration and life of Ugarit. It sustained great damages by fire (1370/1360 bce.), earthquake (1250 bce.) and the final destruction by fire in early 12th century bce.
