* It turned into a virtual dumping ground for organic and inorganic waste
* During rainy season, filthy water accumulates leading to dengue cases in area
* Petitioners file PIL in HC demanding removal of garbage
* NMC removes 30 tonnes of garbage after court's rap
The residents from opposite complex Poonam Pride, set precedent for others on how to get a task done. The judiciary too played a major role.
They had filed a PIL last year by highlighting their plight due to nearby Sanchayani Complex at Khamla Square which had been turned into a dumping ground due to the NMC's apathy. Now the entire area presents a different picture.
Petitioners who have erected a big hoarding in front of Sanchayani Complex requesting the citizens not to throw the garbage in that area. They themselves collected Rs 10,000 for two big boards at the complex that led to people not throwing their garbage in the area, but only after seeking permission from the court. He also displayed old photographs when same area used to be full of garbage and filth and had become den for mosquitoes.
