The place is actually "Phal-phali" or "Fal-fali" not Fhal phali. The place is named after a tank excavated during the rule of Bhuyans sometimes in A.D. 13th century. According to Tai-Ahom Buranjis (Histories) this tank was excavated and developed during the rule of Tai-Ahom king Pratapsimha @ Siuchengpha A.D. 1603-41. Local investigation shows that there was king called "Nagsankara" who founded a series of tanks and temples in the area. So local people try to put it to the rule of Nagsankara viz. Nagsankarapukhuri, Nagsankardevalaya. "Phal Phali" is characteristics of flow of water i.e., flow of water is from underground forceful water source so the name (now oozing of water force is not that strong). During Tai-Ahom rulers, they had a class of people, who find out the water source and they were called "Mati-Cheleka" means a group of soil tasters also "Rahdhola" or "Rahandhola" i.e., a group of chemist, who puts up chemicals to the tank for purification of the water. They found out the exact location of the water source and accordingly the excavator class of people were engaged to complete the remaining portion of the task. They raised the outer rim of the tank with high bank instead of excavating the tank. Normally, the water level of their tank is little higher than the normal level of the plain. All these charcteristics are prevalent here, so it can be believe this was excavted during Tai-Ahom rule. "Phal-phali" is in Sonitpur, a North Assam district near Dikarai river. for any clarification please donot hesitate to contact <saratphukan@hotmail.com>
