203-foot, 17-story modernist office building originally completed in 1915 as a 12-story apartment building. Originally designed by Cross & Cross, it was rebuilt with five new floors in 1957 to a design by Herbert Tannenbaum, with glass and buff-colored brick above a 2-story limestone base.
The recessed main entrance is in the north bay on the avenue, with two bronze-and-glass doors flanking a revolving door, the north wall of the recessed bay is angled back. The three wide bays to the south have plate-glass storefronts (with recessed glass double-doors in the center of the north storefront, and non-recessed glass double-doors in the south one). The corner bay at the south end has an angled center pane next to the narrow west-facing pane and the wider south-facing pane on 54th Street. The rest of the south facade has another plate-glass storefront window, and a wide metal-clad opening at the east end, with a service door and loading dock.
The 2nd floor, and the brick-clad floors above have wide bands of dark-tinted windows. At both main facades, they are divided into two unequal sections by brick piers; the sections nearer the southwest corner are wider. There is no end pier at this corner, instead having wrap-around windows at each floor. This section sets back above the 12th floor, while the brick piers framing the north and east sections extend up another floor to a setback above the 13th floor. There are additional shallow setback on the top floors.
The east elevation has window bands only across the south half, divided into one wide and one short band. The north elevation also has a wide band and a very short one. The ground floor is occupied by The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, in addition to the lobby and a branch of the bank.
Atlantic Bank is a full-service commercial bank with more than $3 billion in assets, placing it in the top five percent of all commercial banks in the United States and ranking it among the top twenty largest banks in the New York metropolitan area. Atlantic Bank has a 75-year old history of serving the financial needs of small businesses and middle market companies, commercial real estate entrepreneurs, investors and consumers. The Bank operates through branch banking offices in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island, Westchester, Dutchess, and several other places.
The exterior sidewalk was used as a filming location for White Collar S02 E05 "Unfinished Buisness" when Neal and Peter are discussing their visit to a new eatery. Views of the Lever House and 400 Park Ave can be seen in the background.
