There was a dispute and a battle as well in between Rani Abbakka and Gokak Kotawals who ruled the town in 16th century. A fort which is in ruins can still be seen at the western side of the city

  • From a viewpoint of Geology it appears that the 16th century builders took advantage natural features - a thick cap-rock layer atop a mesa to add free extra heights to their walls
