One of the hill Forts of Chh. shivajimaharaj near Patgaon, Dist:- Kolhapur
Rangana alias Prasidhhagad is a hill fort cituated in the Sahyadry mountain on the boundry of Kolhapur and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra at the height of 2600 ft above MSL. This fort was built by King Bhoj of Shilahar dynasty in 12th century. The great Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj quanquered it in 1659 from the Aadilshah of Bijapur.The fort is now in very bad condition.The fort have easy access from the basetown Narur in Kudal taluka of Sindhudurg district.one can also access the fort from Patgaon village in KOlhapur district. There is a big lake on the fort full of water for the whole year.There is one temple of Godess Ranganaai. Trekkers can use this temple as a shelter. satish lalit / cell no. 94224 13800.

  • Rangana fort is very good historical place in Maharashtra so many peoples are visiting to this place but now it as HUNTERS places Because so many Government Employe Hunters coming for here for killing rare wild animals and celebrating as like revoo party on this holey place it is bad that is so many forest officers giving supports to Hunters , It is True the Black panther is in this forest but our forest officers are very careless , They could not abel to do their duty for behalf of Valuable forest Environment.   • I visited last week. Only Thar jeep or bike can reach Chikkewadi. There is tall grass and greenery on fort. Very beautiful place.
  • Very bad condition of this fort.There required some changes for attract the attention of government there we have get together that all people lives in near villege.
