Provartenika Rock

The rock formation Provartenika is located west of the town of Lukovit and north of the village of Karlukovo. The rock has the shape of a majestic stone tower that rises above a dozen other smaller formations. The Great Tower Rock has a hole at its top (turret), and during the summer and winter solstice the sun's rays pass through it. It is believed that in ancient times the place served as an ancient observatory.
Today Provartenika is declared a natural landmark.
