Once a base to Wright Airlines which had service to Cleveland's Lakefront Airport and Southwest which offered flights to Chicago-Midway, the last commercial flights by Pro Air ended in September 2000.

Today, the airport serves general aviation and is home to a number of flight schools. It has been unable to attract and retain a commercial carrier in part because of the inability to acquire adjacent land for runway expansion.

  • Currently served by one scheduled airline, Southwest. It's a tight fit to land an aircraft at Detroit City much like landing at Midway in Chicago, no room for error.
  • No no... this airport's aptly named. King Coleman did a terrific job getting people to bounce out of Detroit, so why not name an airport after him? See? Forward thinking! In correlation, I'm all about renaming Detroit Metro Airport to "Granholm International". Makes perfect sense to me.
  • according to the wikipedia article on this airport , there are no scheduled airlines serving this airport now .
  • 'it's a tight fit to land...' Not as bad as the 'take-off'. You need half to two thirds again the length of landing for takeoff. Takeoff in a G-III, G-IV (5280 ft), G-450 (5450 ft) never mind a G-550 (5950 ft) is 'tight fit' if not impossible. The runway, 15/33 is 5090 ft at an elevation of 626 ft above sea level which makes the G-IV takeoff about of 5400 ft instead of '5280' (spec) do to elevation, a 'tight fit'. But then what is there in Detroit to spend time seeing? Coleman and Everyone since has been 'holding the door open' while their 'crew' chases Everyone out... Last one out, please turn off the lights.
