East Gate - Ancient Philippopolis (Plovdiv)

The Eastern Gate of Philippopolis is one of the three open-entry arteries of ancient Plovdiv. Through it, the main link between Philippopolis and Byzantium took place. It is believed to have been built in the II century during Emperor Adrian and was largely reconstructed in the 4th century. The complex around the gate was discovered and excavated in the 70s of the twentieth century.
