Charles S. Price shipwreck

One of the many mysteries of the Great Storm of 1913 was how the Price ended up capsized, but still afloat after the storm.

The wreck was found hull-up after the storm and it took two days for divers to positively identify her as the Price. She later sank.

Most of the bodies of the Price's crew washed up on nearby beaches after the storm, several wearing lifejackets from the also doomed freighter Regina, which has led to speculation that the ship's crews somehow made contact before they both sank.

One crewmember had a bad feeling about the "final trip" and walked away from the ship in Cleveland. He later was called to Sarnia to identify the bodies of his shipmates.

  • Not only is their speculation that the Regina and the Charle S Price made contact before they both sunk, there is speculation that the Regina saw the crew of the Price in trouble and threw lifejackets overboard to the men already in the water to try to help them. That is real courage
  • It should be noted that the Price crewmen ended up with Regina jackets was because group of souvenir hunters had looted the bodies of some Regina crews, when the local Sheriff threatened legal action against people who stole stuff from the corpse washed ashore the life jackets were returned but to the wrong bodies.
