Pakke Tiger Reserve (862 km2, 92°36′ – 93°09′E and 26°54′ – 27°16′N, 150 to 2040 m ASL) lies in the foothills of the Eastern Himalaya in the East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The preliminary notification of Pakke (earlier Pakhui) as a Reserve Forest in the Kameng Frontier Division was issued in 1962. The area was further notified as Pakhui Game Sanctuary in 1977. Pakke was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 2001 in recognition of its rich flora and fauna. Pakke harbours a significant representation of large carnivores and thus was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2002. Concordantly, this area was also notified as part of the Kameng Elephant Reserve
