Commonly known as Alresford (it's been new for a 1,000 years) a charming vale market town: for the last 40 years marking the end of the Steam Watercress line from Alton. It is split between the well established part north of the steam railway line and the 60s and onwards housing in the neighbourhood called Tichbourne Down. Famous for its watercress, the annual agricultural show, posh shops, six pubs and a traditional Christmas. The pronunciation is "Allsford".

Birthplace of Mary Russell Mitford who wrote Our Village (about Three Mile Cross and Shinfield) and Belford Regis (about Reading).
