Hotel Scherman

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 46th Street, 346

7-story hotel completed in the late 1800s as a townhouse. It was completely renovated and had additional floors built before opening as the French Quarters, a New Orleans-themed boutique hotel, in 2007. It is now named the Hotel Scherman. The 3-bay facade is faced in pale yellow smooth stucco above a ground floor of red brick. The hotel entrance is at the west end, through black iron double-doors. To the left is a round-arched door to the hotel's restaurant, The Bourbon Street Bar & Grille, flanked by round-arched windows and niches with statues. This entrance is flanked by a pair of black iron gas lamps out front. There is a service entrance at the east end. Four red-brick columns front the ground floor, extending up to the 2nd floor, supporting a balcony with ornate wrought-iron railings. The columns narrow to points at the top of the 2nd floor, where there is a shallow-sloped shingle roof over the balcony. The 2nd floor has wide, wood-framed, round-arched double French doors and narrower round-arched windows.

The upper floors have double-windows in the end bays, and paired windows in the middle bay, with mustard-yellow colored stone surrounds and cornices. The middle bay also has small balconies at the 3rd & 4th floors, with ornate wrought-iron railings. Flankking the upper part of the middle bay at the 3rd floor are two mustard-yellow niches with statues. The 5th floor is topped by a white-painted wooden balustrade. The set-back 6th floor has a setback above the eastern bay, with a short balustrade, and the full 7th floor is topped by a balustrade.
