5-story residential building originally completed in 1885 as two separate structures. Although Nos. 701 and 703 are joined today, with a new unified facade, the structure at No. 703 was originally built to a design matching the building on its north side, No. 705, which can still be seen reflected in its projecting end bays and arched windows.
The new facade, dating from the late 1900s, is clad in red brick. The main entrance to the joined building is on the south facade, at 401 West 48th Street, just left of center, with a recessed metal-and-glass door, sidelight and transom up a short set of steps. The cream-colored stone pilasters framing the doorway support an entablature with a triangular pediment. To the west is a red metal service door and a storefront, while to the east is a larger, brick-and-glass storefront that continues on the avenue side.
Above the black metal signboard on the east facade, the upper floors have eight total bays of single-windows, all with cream-colored, joined brick lintels and simple stone sills. The south four are all square-headed, while on the north half the middle two bays at the 5th floor are round-arched, and the outer bays at the 4th floor are also round-arched; the outer bays project slightly forward from the rest of the facade. A pair of black metal fire escapes run down the middle two bays of each half on the east facade.
The south facade has, from west to east, three grouped bays of single-windows, another bay of single-windows, five more bays of single-windows spaced further apart, and an end bay of single-windows by itself at the east end. These all have simple stone sills and painted, joined lintels. The brick roof parapet has a stone coping, and is slightly higher at the east end, and at the south half of the east facade. The ground floor is occupied by The GAF West bar, and Mom's Kitchen and Bar.
