Late antique fortress and medieval Kilifarevo Monastery is located about 600 meters on the hill east of the current Kilifarevo Monastery "Nativity of the Virgin" and about a kilometer south below the road between the villages Natsovtsi, Varlinka, Malchovtsi, Golemanite and about 4.5 km south of the town of Kilifarevo.
The hill on which the fortress was built remains east of the Belitsa River. Its slopes from south, west and north are very steep and the access to the ridge of the hill is convenient for access only from the east. For the visitors of the current Kilifarevo Monastery "Nativity of the Mother of God" there is a path marked in blue starting from the exit to the river under the wooden bridge. The path goes along the monastery wall opposite the river and at the end of the wall goes up the slope. The length of the transition is about 30 minutes.
The dominance of the hill over the surrounding terrain provides good visibility in the direction of the Hainboaz Pass (Republic Pass), as well as to the northern road from the turnoff to the village of Plakovo.
The locals know this place by several names and call it "Tsar's Pier", "Old Monastery", "Guard" or "Kaleto". Excavations were carried out from 1974 to 1988.
