This concrete and steel bridge, designed by Sir George Humphreys and Sir Reginald Bloomfield, was opened in 1932. It replaced an earlier suspension bridge of limited utility. Prior to 1862 the river was crossed here by horse ferry. Painted red because it is at the Lords end of the Houses of Parliament - see also Westminster Bridge.
