 apartment building, Modern (architecture)

210-foot, 19-story modernist residential building completed in 2009. Designed by Handel Architects, it is clad in silver glass and grey steel. The lower two floors are faced in plate-glass bands, and contain commercial space. The building has a notable rounded northeast corner at the intersection of Broadway and 72nd Street. At the west end of the ground floor on 72nd Street, there is a stone-framed loading dock with a roll-down metal gate, and immediately to the left is the residential entrance, with a glass revolving door and traditional glass door, set in a glass wall framed by dark-colored stone and covered by a metal canopy angling sharply upward. A ribbed steel band runs between the two floors of the commercial base.

The upper floors have three windows at the rounded corner (in silver steel framing), while the two main facades on the north and east both have nine bays of paired windows. Dividing the bays are paired, narrow, dark-grey steel piers. These are cut away at the top floors, ending at the top of the 13th floor along the four bays on each facade closest to the rounded corner, and then extending one floor farther upward at each of the next five bays, so that the piers reach the roof line at the end bays. Above the terminations of the piers, the facade is slightly recessed, with this cutaway section having horizontal grey steel spandrels between the bands of glass on each floor.

The west elevation is clad in beige brick, with a 1-bay return of the glass curtain wall at the north and south ends. There are a few square, punched windows at the top floors. The building contains 196 apartment units, and the commercial base is occupied by a Bank of America branch, Trader Joe's grocery store, and a large Duane-Reade pharmacy.
