Bennett Elementary opened in August 2000. It was named in honor of Dr. Vern Bennett, who retired after serving as superintendent of Fargo Public Schools from 1971-1999. The school was built to accommodate 27 sections of grades K-5 with a capacity of 616 students. It was built on a site of 30 acres developed by Fargo Public Schools, Fargo Park District, and FM Athletics. It opened with 16 sections of students in grades 1-5, and an enrollment of 347 students. An addition for three classrooms was added to Bennett in 2007-08.
