skyscraper, apartment building
528-foot, 48-story postmodern residential building completed in 2001. Designed by Schuman Lichtenstein Claman Efron, it features a central, curved section of glass with silver aluminum spandrels. The main entrance is framed in grey granite, with a revovling door flanked by two traditional doors under a metal marquee. Two large, round steel columns are visible behind the glass wall of the main entrance. The large and attractive lobby has a tapestry based on an Bauhaus design by Gunta Stolzl. There are three bays on either side of the projecting, curved center section. They project farther forward, framing the center section, at the lower six floors, creating a base for the tower, with storefronts at the ground floor. These end bays have limestone piers, with tripartite windows. Above the base, there are silver metal spandrels, and black metal air-conditioning vents at each window group.
The east elevation is faced in white-painted pre-cast concrete, with stone at the front and rear ends. The south half of the facade is set back. The stone bays at the front and rear have double-windows. In the middle are four bays of single-windows; the outer ones begin almost halfway up the tower. At the top floors, the north bay of double-windows switches to a glass curtain wall matching the curved center section of the north facade. The west elevation is also faced in painted pre-cast concrete, with a stone bay of double-windows at the front, that switches to glass curtain wall at the top floors. Behind it are four bays of single-windows.
The south-facing, rear facade has a glass-and-metal curtain wall in the center that projects slightly forward. There are two bays of tripartite windows framed by stone piers on either side. On the west end there is a third bay of tripartite windows, and on the east end is a set-back bay of single-windows.
The building contains 360 apartment units. The ground floor is occupied by Potbelly Sandwich Shop, and Chipotle Mexican Grill.
