The plant is located in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The project is being implemented by Vidarbha Industries Power Limited (VIPL), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)and a subsidiary of Reliance Power.

The project comprises of two units of 300 MW each with one unit being developed as group captive and the other unit as an Independent Power Project (IPP).
