This originally red brick home was built for Welsh steamboat and engine maker James Rees in the late 1870s. It owes its current limestone exterior to a remodeling by industrialist John H. Hillman Jr., who bought the property in 1919. The building remained in the Hillman family until 1975, and now houses condos.
