"Bagatelle" (Old Westbury, New York)

Estate home designed c. 1910 in the Federal style on originally 8 acres of land by and for Thomas Hastings {architect}. Hastings served as a named partner of the leading architectural firm of Carrère & Hastings. John Merven Carrère lived at "Red Oak" in Westchester.

The home was built on the site of his prior home which burned down in 1908 out of steel and concrete rather than mainly wood. In 1915, Beatrix Jones Farrand consulted on the design of border plantings. The aleè of trees along the driveway leading from the main gate to the estate is still extant.
