place with historical importance, fortification, interesting place
Kanoor Fort is an old fort built by a queen of the Keladi kingdom called Rani Chennabhairadevi (or Rani Abbakka Devi - there is no clarity on this issue), also known as the 'Pepper queen' as she was known for the export of pepper and other spices. This fort is now in ruins and the only way to access it is to trek 11 kms from Kanoor village. Sadly this fort too has fallen prey to treasure hunters and has been looted by them. It is a big fort situated on top of a hill and overgrown with dense forests of the Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary.
Kanoor village can be reached by road from Kargal (near Jog Falls) via Biligaru.
