Lake Tekeze is the largest man made lake (reservoir) in Ethiopia. It was created by the construction of a hydroelectric dam on Tekeze River, a tributary of the Nile. The two main branches of the lake stretching back for about 70 km (43.5 miles), and with its catchment area of 30,000 km² (11,583 mi²), the reservoir has a total water storage capacity of 9.3 billion m³ (328.4 billion ft³).
