Gonder is a city in northern Ethiopia. It's located about 748 kilometers (464 miles) north of Addis Ababa. Established as a capital of Ethiopia during the reign of Emperor Fasiledes
(1632-1667), the city retained its status until the middle of the nineteenth century, the time when the government seat was moved to Debre Tabor and then to Meqdela by Atse (Emperor) Tewadros II.
