Estate home designed c. 1800 in the Colonial Revival style with alterations in 1925 by James W. O'Connor on originally 22 acres for Artemas Holmes {publisher, capitalist}. Holmes served as president of Street & Smith Publications and Hamilton, Iselin & Co. His sister HIlda married William Grace Holloway and resided at "Foxland" in Old Westbury.

Holmes also lived at the Villard Houses on Madison Avenue in Manhattan.
