This intersection is known locally as "The Transfer Station," having once been the place where passengers could transfer between the trolley line running along Summit Avenue and the trolley line running along Paterson Plank Road. Until 1923 when Union City was formed from the merger of towns called West Hoboken, Union Hill, and Cox's Corners, this was the center of town for West Hoboken, NJ.

  • This place had, back in the 80's, some very odd "corner taverns". One, called "Ponderosa" was where I saw a midget dancing with a babe, but he was missing a leg and on crutches. Oh yeah, dancing girl on a stage in the corner. Another called "Swing Club" usually had one dancing girl, no customers, but had cardboard cutout life size people placed around the bar to look like patrons.
