Former site of a mining camp and railroad station. The town was established by Southern Pacific Railroad in 1877 as a watering stop. It served as a supply point for the nearby TUMCO-Hedges mining district and a fabrication plant for the second Plank Road in 1916. Plank road segments were fabricated here and hauled to the dunes by mule teamsters to replace the plank road orignally laid down in 1913. The WWII years saw a brief flurry of activity with the establishment of Desert Training Center's Camp Pilot Knob to the east, but the town was abandoned in the 1950s. All that remains are the cemetery and schoolhouse foundations.
