KSM Gold Project

This is the outline for the area tha contains the Claim Blocks for the KSM (Kerr-Sulphurets-Mitchell) Project which is 100% owned by Seabridge Gold. Seabridge acquired KSM from Placer Dome after entering into an agreement in June 2000, then on March 28, 2001 a definitive agreement was reached between Seabridge and Placer Dome. Final closing was delayed until June 2001 after Placer Dome was released of its environmental obligations to the project. In 2002 Seabridge optioned the property Noranda Inc. with specific details, but Falconbridge (which had acquired Noranda) decided not to proceed and thus Seabridge used and option to acquire full interest back.

Although there is evidence prospectors were active in this area prior to 1935, modern xxpoloration history of the was initiated in the 1960's with short programs conducted by Newmont, Granduc, Phelphs Dodge, and the Meridian Syndicate, which were all focused on gold. Esso Minerals Canada Ltd was the first to drill the Sulphurets zone in 1969, Kerr was first drilled by Brinco in 1985, and Newhawk Gold Mines Ltd. drilled Mitchell in 1991. Placer Dome acquired 100% interest in Kerr from Western Canadian Mines in 1990 then the subsequently Suphurets from Newhawk.

  • This is an ENORMOUS project which a huge quantity of gold and copper. And right next to it is the almost-as-big Brucejack and Snowfield project of Pretium Resources. According to Pretium's website, the two companies have a joint engineering study underway to review the economics of developing the two projects together. If this all comes to pass, it would become the biggest mine in Canada by far (other than the Oil Sands).
