Dobbin is an old Gutsdorf (village with an estate). The village was uninhabited during the 30-years war (1618-1648). The Gut was rebuilt in the 1860s by Anton von Brocken with a small palace, park, streets and buildings. The estate was owned by Von Barold, Von Lepel and Von Brocken. In 1901, the estate with palace and woods (2800 ha) was bought by the royal Dutch family. Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands had married in the same year Prinz Heinrich von Mecklenburg-Schwerin, who died in 1934. In 1936 the estate was sold to the Dutch-British oil magnate Henri Deterding KBE (Hon.) (1866-1939). Deterding died in his chalet in Sankt Moritz, but was buried in Dobbin. In 1945, the estate was overcrowded with German refugees who fled from Soviet occupied territories. The estate was expropriated without compensation. The villages inhabitants were forced to leave. In 1945/46, the estate became a Durchgangslager (concentration camp) for 13.000 former "Ostarbeiter" (laborers from Eastern Europe) before they were sent back to the USSR. The palace was heavily damaged by Soviet soldiers, and afterwards it was decided to demolish the building. The former Inspektorenhaus has remained, as was the Kavaliershaus in a reduced form, and the Marstall. The Kavaliershaus was originally built for the guests of the royal Dutch family.
Dobbin had a train station at the begin of the 20th century, which was especially built for queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands and her husband. The couple was often seen in.
When Juliana (the later queen of the Netherlands) was born in 1909, the municipality of Dobbin erected a monument.
