  • i stumbled upon this fort quite accidently. Well, not much of a fort remains here. One fortress, remains of the side wall, broken palace wall (maybe), and water place for animals is what you can see here. Possibly built to keep a watch on the water way traffic. A very strategic location i must say. just climb on to the fortress and you can see whole of mira-road and bhyander as well. reach to its north side and you can see the bhaynder khadi. A place worth investigating for an adventure crazy. Maybe someone knows this place's history as well.
  • I am staying in Mira road I want to know the exact location of Ghodbandar Fort
  • Ghodbandar fort was a manor-house belonging to a wealthy family of Portuguese nobles, who built it around 1550. At that time, the whole area from land's end in Colaba, Mumbai up to Bulsar, near Daman, was controlled by the Portuguese Empire. The Maratha army, under general Chimanji Appa, occupied the manor-house in 1737 and transformed it into a fort, building the circular watchtower seen in the picture.
  • Ghodbunder fort was under the Portuguese control in 1672. Shivaji Maharaj tried to capture the fort but did not succeed. The Marathas took over the fort in 1737 during campaign of Vasai fort. References say that 250 Portuguese were killed and 7 ships were captured by Marathas. It was during this campaign the forts of Nagla Bunder, Ghodbunder and Dharavi were captured. The British took over this fort in 1818.
