Site of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority's reconstruction of the remnants of a house that burned in 1930.

A house within a large plantation was constructed in in the area before 1746. That house was the birthplace of Nelly Custis, grandaughter of Martha Washington and adopted daughter of George Washington. The house was also the home of Gerrard Alexander, one of the founders of Alexandria, Virginia and of David Stuart, one the original commissioners of the District of Columbia. The house was apparently destroyed after it was abandoned during the Civil War. During the early 20th century, people considered that a house that then existed at this site was actually the earlier one. Although the house burned in 1930, its ruins remained at the site for over 50 years. In 1998, the Airports Authority renovated the site, removed artifacts, and reconstructed features that it considered to be historically significant.
