180-foot, 18-story residential building completed in 1962. Designed by Zareh Sourian, it consists of a taller, narrow section fronting Central Park West, and a 12-story, wider section on 58th Street, both clad in light-grey brick. The skinny north facade has a white-painted limestone ground floor, which is mostly recessed between the end piers (both decorated with a vertical row of projecting panels). On the right is the main entrance, with glass-and-metal double-doors and sidelights below a peaked, black canvas canopy, and on the left is a single metal service door.
The 2nd & 3rd floors have bands of windows with metal framing. Beginning at the 4th floor there are tripartite windows next to recessed balconies. The balconies are set lower than the windows and fronted by glass railings, and the placement of the balconies and windows alternates left or right on every other floor. There is a setback above the 16th floor, and again to the penthouse level and rooftop bulkheads.
The shorter, rear facade on 58th Street is all brick. The ground floor has a service entrance at the west end, framed by black granite. On the east side is a small metal service door, an entrance/exit to the underground parking garage, and 2-bay storefront (one bay of show-windows and one with glass doors), and a final set of metal service doors at the east end. The 2nd floor has four single-windows at the east end, and seven near the west, with a metal vent at the far west end, and a few more vents between the two sections of windows.
Beginning at the 3rd floor the end bays have tripartite windows, and the center section is set back. It has small single-windows at both ends; in between are (from west to east) tripartite windows, two bays of double-windows, a bay of four windows (although they are divided into three wider panes at some floors), and another bay of double-windows. All have simple stone sills and black metal framing, with small, narrow slit vents below the windows. The end bays set back above the 10th floor. At the 11th & 12th floors in the center section, the west bays of single-windows and tripartite windows combine to form a wider tripartite window, the 4-window bay narrows to double-windows, and the double-window and single-window at the east end combine to form bands of 4 windows. There is a full-floor setback above the 12th floor, topped by a metal railing. The rooftop on the 13th floor has mechanical penthouses at the middle and east side.
The building was converted to a condominium in 1988, with 79 units. The east end of the ground floor on 58th Street is occupied by Grace & Essex cleaners.
