A severe fire with fatalities occurred here on April 1, 1960.

Complete destruction of the main tank; 41 people (however, the Voice of America reported 240!) were killed, three residential buildings, administrative building of the tank farm, a storage facility, bottling plant, power lines, communications, etc. were burned and/or destroyed.
