St. Spas Byzantine and Medieval Bulgarian Church (Pernik)

An elegant square and cross-shaped plan early Byzantine basilica and later Bulgarian church, discovered in 2003-2004. Built under Justinian I in opus mixtum ca. 530 AD and abandoned under Justin II around 575 AD. Smaller Bulgarian church on the top of Byzantine ruins, perhaps 14-17 century AD. Adjacent necropolis of the 14-18 century AD. Excavations not completed.
