Adventure Tower - Disneyland Hotel (Anaheim, California)

USA / California / Garden Grove / Anaheim, California

This hotel tower was formerly known as the Dreams Tower from 2007-2011 and as the Sierra Tower prior to 2007. It became the Adventure Tower, named after Adventureland, in June 2011.

The Adventure Tower is the oldest remaining wing of the Disneyland Hotel, built in 1962. The original complex, which opened in August 1956, consisted of the low-rise buildings seen in the photo above, which were demolished to build Downtown Disney in 1999.

Designed by the firm of Pereira & Luckman, the hotel was built by Disney's friend, developer Jack Wrather, after Disney ran out of money building his park. The hotel was owned by The Wrather Corporation until The Walt Disney Company bought the entire Wrather Corporation in 1989, following Jack Wrather's death in 1984. As a result Disney also owned the RMS Queen Mary/Spruce Goose in Long Beach, "The Lone Ranger" and the TV series "Lassie", all of which they soon sold.

  • The Disneyland Hotel actually opened on October 5, 1955. August, 1956 was the official Grand Opening but the Hotel had been receiving guests since the October, 1955 date.
