Formerly known as the Western Union Building, this 371-foot, 24-story Art-Deco/Art-Moderne office and telecommunications building was completed in 1930. Designed by Voorhees, Gmelin & Walker with structural elements by the Guastavino Fireproof Tile Co. for the Western Union company, it spans the entire block between Hudson, Thomas, Worth & West Broadway. The design of the building shows the influence of German Expressionism, while the detailing is Art Deco. The exterior brick moves from darker shades to lighter ones as the building rises through various setbacks, passing through 19 different colors as it does.

It served as Western Union's headquarters until 1973, though a mini exhibition of sorts remains in one of the windows along West Broadway. Today it is a large telecom supernode "carrier hotel", and is one of the most important Internet hubs in the world with more than 350 telecommunications and data service providers. Both the exterior and the soaring interior lobby are New York City landmarks.
