Residence built c. 1927 in the Colonial style on originally 37 acres of land for Theodore Augustus Havemeyer, II {industrialist} on the site of a 1915 house which burned down in December of 1927. Havemeyer served as director of Havemeyer & Elder sugar refiners and Scranton & Leigh Coal Co. While working at "Cedar Hill", Martin Viette hybridized the beautiful Phlox paniculata ‘Katherine’ between 1922 and 1925, named after Katherine Havemeyer. Martin Viette also hybridized and named Papaver orientale ‘Cedar Hill’.
