Local Eccentric Artist Ronald Crandall built his home to resemble a French Village he'd visited while in military service. Materials were scavenged, including the cobblestones picked up from the streets of San Francisco and carted, one VW busload at a time during the late 1960's and early 1970's across the Golden Gate Bridge and up over Mt. Tamalpais road on Hwy 1. The building includes a round tower with arrow slits, a square tower with 3 bedrooms, a basement (dungeon), and a secret passage to a wine cellar. Never finished, its still a monument to one man's dream. This is a private home in spite of these features and is likely worth a fortune in spite of its eccentric construction and general lack of building permits.
