Historic community in Mission District, settled by Italians and, in nearby Silverhill, Scandinavians. Still the stronghold of the Donatelli family, but also the home of the related Gaglardi clan of "Flying Phil" fame (Phil Gaglardi was an infamous highways minister in the regime of Premier W.A.C. Bennett).

Silverdale is perhaps most notable for being the location of Canada's first train robbery, staged on the CPR tracks on a dark and rainy December 10, 1904, by "the Gentleman Bandit", Bill Miner. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Miner

Silverdale is also the first community outside Metro Vancouver (formerly GVRD), so GVRD taxes are not included in the price of gasoline. That's why this little community has 3 gas stations.
