village, ghost town
Alvin is a small and scattered community at the north end of Pitt Lake. It's main industry is logging, but a bit of fishing occurs here too. The population of Alvin is less than 200, but likely less than 100. Alvin is only accessible by float-plane or boat. There is a vehicle barge which motors between Grant Narrows, at the south end of Pitt Lake, and the Alvin Jetty at the north end whenever it's needed. A post office operated here into the 1950s, and supposedly, there should be a small airstrip here somewhere. I looked long and hard, but couldn't find any such airstrip.
