Originally named Prudential, it was redubbed One Prudential Plaza in 1990 when the adjacent tower was built. Constructed in 1955, it was the first new office building in Chicago since 1934 and was the city's tallest roofline until the John Hancock Building was completed in 1969. One Prudential Plaza has 41 floors and stands 601 feet tall (not including the enormous mast mounted on the eastern side of the building's roof).

Current tenants include 101.9FM, The Mix and Peoples Energy Company.
