The Fairmont Royal York is a historic five-star hotel built by the Canadian Pacific Railroad and opened in 1929. The 28-floor hotel, designed by Ross & Macdonald with Sproatt & Rolph, has a height of 124 m (407 ft) and stood as the tallest building in Toronto and Canada from 1929-1931. It was the largest in the British Empire/Commonwealth for many years, originally having 1,048 rooms and expanding to 1,600 rooms in 1956-57 with the addition of the east wing. From 1988 to 1993, it underwent a $100,000,000 renovation.

The Royal York Hotel has 1,365 guest rooms (including 82 suites), an indoor pool, a spa, a fitness centre, a business centre, two restaurants, a bar, and 36 meeting rooms (including the ballroom, the Concert Hall, and the Imperial Room). The interior was used for S1E3 of the USA Network series "Suits" as the site of a meeting, S6E16 as the site of Mike Ross' penultimate hearing, and in S7E4 and S7E8.

The lobby, which was renovated shortly thereafter by the Rockwell Group with Champalimaud, bears different lights.
