Constructed from 1973 to 1975, First Canadian Place is the tallest building in Canada, rising 298 metres (978 ft) (355 m (1,165 ft) including antennae) with 72 floors in the Financial District of Toronto. On the first 3 floors is a shopping mall with 120 stores. The building has a floor area of 250,849 sq m (2,700,120 sq ft). It is the Ontario headquarters of Bank of Montreal(BMO). The main entrance lobby is finished in marble and has 7m high ceilings lit by Italian crystal chandeliers. The building was designed by Bregmann + Hamann Architects and Edward Durrell Stone and was developed by Olympia and York. It has 29 elevators and is connected to the underground PATH system.
First Canadian Place underwent a renovation from 2009 to 2012. The renovation involved replacing its original Carrara marble facade with a new facade with white fritted glass panels (with the indented corners having black glass panels).
