West George Street, 44-46 (Glasgow)

United Kingdom / Scotland / Glasgow / West George Street, 44-46

The building that stands at this address today consists of the Carlton George Hotel and Waxy O'Connors pub both of which opened in 1999.

Originally a typically Victorian/Edwardian office building stood on this site like dozens of others in the area, it's biggest claim to fame was Gigi's Discotheque in the 1970s. Sadly, in 1995, the whole building was gutted by fire and was demolished. Reconstruction started in 1997 of the hotel/pub complex which now stands here.

The hotel is a 4-star boutique hotel owned by the Dutch Carlton Hotel Collection, and is one of only two hotels in their portfolio that is in the UK. Meanwhile, Waxy's has now become a Glaswegian institution of its own, with its multi-level bars and "Lord Of The Rings" style interior decor.
